First Client Demo

For the last few weeks, I have been contributing to a client's project, The client is a fundraising company based in the US and It's a wonderful feeling working with people from different backgrounds, cultures, and parts of the world. Fitting in and getting comfortable hasn't been easy but I will get there. After getting feedback to take up the initiative and start demoing features, I saw this as an opportunity to engage more with the team. For this week I had to show what we have accomplished during the sprint.

Before the demo, I had to go through all the features with my teammates so that I get a full grip on how they work and also put myself in a position to answer any question that could be directed to me be by the stakeholders. I had to set all the data needed for the demo in one place and fired up my browser with tabs referencing the data sources in case I am asked to confirm it's authenticity.

when the time came, I was very nervous and also curious about what is going to happen. after each feature I demoed, I requested to know if there are any questions or comments so that I address them and also to give room to my teammates in case they had to give more context about what the feature is doing. In the end, it was a huge success.

A few tips I use before and during a demo are;

  • Have a firm grip on what you're going to show

  • have all the data set up and open browser tabs with references in case needed.

  • calm yourself down, I took a deep breath before I started.

  • make room for questions to be asked after you have showcased the feature and also use this opportunity to ask for feedback.

This experience has geared me up for the next demo.
